ABOUT

Andrea Grantham
Founder and Principal
For more than 20 years, Andrea Grantham has held a variety of leadership roles in the not-for-profit sector, with an emphasis on the health, physical activity and sport sector. She served as Executive Director and CEO of Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) from 2005-12 and as their Director of Communications and Operations from 2003-05. Prior to this, Andrea worked as a freelance consultant in the areas of communications, writing and editing, media relations and project management for a number of not-for-profit and for-profit organizations.
During her tenure as CEO of PHE Canada, Andrea's efforts were focused on a new strategic plan that led to a rename and rebrand of the organization. In addition, a primary emphasis was placed on diversifying the organization's funding base, taking the organization from a less than $1 million/year to in excess of $3.5 million/year - generating more than $15 million during her seven-year tenure. This includes expanding funding from one primary national government funder, to multiple federal and provincial government funders, corporate sponsors, foundations, and organizational ventures.
Trusted and respected among government funders, Andrea has spent a considerable amount of time on Parliament Hill in front of standing committees, senators and MPs advocating for physical activity and physical education as interventions to Canada’s obesity epidemic. She was often sought after to present on this issue, and was invited to play a role in developing Active Canada 20/20, A Physical Activity Strategy and Change Agenda.
With a strong belief that working collaboratively ensures a much greater impact than working apart, Andrea has led a number of strategic partnerships and initiatives. Among them is the Canadian Active After School Partnership – a collaboration of national organizations destined to make quality after school programs a reality for every child and youth in Canada. In addition, thanks to the support of a generous and committed corporate sponsor, Andrea led the development of At My Best, a comprehensive, school-based resource being delivered to more than 300,000 children.
